Both timbers used in this piece only grow in the arid outback areas of Australia where it may take decades for trees to add millimetres to their girth. Both trees only grow to a small size and the ‘ringed’ pattern in Gidgee is very difficult and rare to find, especially as fine as is used in this piece. I believe that rare woods should be used as sparingly as possible and in a way that highlights their features to the maximum.
