Recycled Parallam construction beam, cut, painted, carved. Base is recycled western red cedar, cut, ferrous oxide patina, steel rod. The inspiration, along with the title, for this piece came as a direct result of my participation in the CollaboratioNZ 2011 event in New Zealand. Terry Scott and Alby Hall both told me that if I attended, it would change my art, and it did. This piece is inspired by the Maori grimace, a form of greeting, that I observed in many instances of Maori traditional carvings.
