Douglas Fisher

Douglas is a full-time artist living on Vancouver Island, Canada. He was
encouraged by his parents to be whatever he wanted to be, which as a young boy was to sail around the world, single-handed, like Joshua Slocum. So he learned how to sail, going on to own various boats and crew aboard several ocean going vessels, including the famous sailing yacht “Iolaire”, which he sailed throughout the Caribbean and across the Atlantic Ocean. Prior to becoming a full-time artist, Douglas taught skiing and sailing, sold real
estate, was an iron worker, and worked in several underground gold mines as a driller and blaster. Stage acting has been his hobby since the early 90's. Since 1992 Douglas has been involved almost exclusively in creating some form of art, including painting, stained glass, photography, pen and ink drawing, and woodworking. Wood sculptures,  primarily made using a lathe followed by hand carving have been his focus since 1997. Douglas has graced the covers of almost every major woodturning magazine in the world and he has been sought after internationally as a demonstrator, lecturer and teacher. His works have been in many international exhibitions and are in private collections around the world.
